Purchase: I purchased these boots online from Valley Vet Supply for $119 per pair.
Likes: I have tried Boa boots, but they were difficult for me to put on my horse by myself due to a shoulder injury. The Cavallo Simple Boot could not be easier to put on. Also, they are really easy to measure. No hoof tracings required, only the length of the hoof is needed to size the boot. They offer good sole protection in all types of terrain for my barefoot horse. When snugged properly, they stay in place through all my horses gaits. I have peace of mind knowing my horse's bare feet are protected.
Dislikes: The velcro collects a lot of grass seed and debris that can be difficult to clean out. For some reason, my horse can't wait to get out of these things. He practically kicks them off after a ride. I have tried the gel pad inserts to improve fit and comfort, but they only last through a few rides. Save your money and buy Easy Care comfort pads instead. They are cheaper and last much longer. Pastern wraps of some kind are absolutely necessary to prevent rubbing of the bulbs and coronary band.
Quality: These boots seem very well made and sturdy. Since they are leather, they should be treated like any other leather tack. I use leather wash and conditioner after each ride to prevent them from looking like they went through a nuclear blast after each ride. The leather will show wear very quickly and should be treated properly to protect your investment.
Summary: All in all, I am very happy with these boots. They are by far the easiest to put on of any commercially available boot that I have tried, and they offer decent protection for the barefoot horse. There is still room for improvement, but these boots aren't half bad.
