Purchase: I bought this book through Amazon.com for $19.95. I wanted to begin schooling my green horse over jumps and it looked like a good training tool.
Likes: Linda Allen makes a wonderful, smooth and slow transition in her book, from beginning jumping excercises to more challenging ones. They are well described, and the illustrations to accompany them are clear and instructive.
She also describes the reasoning behind each excercise in a very friendly way, there is no soaring pretention in this book.
Despite there being 101 excercises, Allen doesn't cop out and 'fill space' with repetative or ill concieved ones. They are all solid, from start to finish.
Dislikes: A couple more ground pole sequences in the beginning couldn't hurt.
Quality: The book is well made, though because it's often out by the arena, I wish it were spiral bound and laminated like the book '101 Ring Excercises'.
The writing is solid, it reminds me of the slightly lyrical way Happy Horsemanship was written, which was a surprise.
Summary: This book, combined with a critical friend is the next best thing to a personal trainer.
