Happy Mouth
Pastel Jointed Loose Ring Bit
English Bridle Accessories

Manufacturer: Happy Mouth
Model: Pastel Jointed Loose Ring Bit
Category: English Bridle Accessories

Purchase: I bought this bit recently from Dover Saddlery. I needed a bit for my mare, because her old copper roller was pinching her mouth and cut it open. I bought it for $29.90 plus shipping. I bought some bit guards along with it, seeing as it was a loose ring.

Likes: Nothing. My friend told me it was a good brand, but it turned out to be less than expected from the ads.

Dislikes: My pony likes to chew her bit and this bit is 'apple-scented' and 'apple flavoured'. She would of course go right to chewing it, expecting it to be flavorful anyway. When I ordered the bit, it stated it was extremely durable, safe, non-toxic. HOWEVER, when I received sed item, a pamphlet inside the container said that a bit that even had as much as a tooth mark on it was "dangerous" to continue use. Things that aren't allowed to be chewed on should not be flavored!! I'm not stupid. I'm not going to use something potentially harmful on my horse. Even if it simply meant that it would flake off in her mouth easily. It said if the bit is marked, it should not be used at all anymore. It said if you find marks, get your horse's mouth checked out or make sure it is adjusted properly. But by then, too late, you need a new bit all together. As some people know, most horses can chew the bit if they really want to. They just push it back into the molars. It doesn't matter if its so tight it won't go into their front teeth. They can still pull it up into their molars. As I stated before, the bit said "extremely durable." But on the pamphlet, it said it was more easily damaged.

Quality: The bit was a lot more flimsy than expected. It looked like I could break it myself! I was also disappointed to see that this "High-Quality plastic" was made in Korea! It says it right there on the bit! The bit stated it was apple-scented. I sniffed it. It smelled worse than a car tire, honest! Apparently the plastic is designed by scientists and is "SPACE AGE". It says it right there on the little tag that is on the bit. Then how come it can't be chewed and was only $30? And manufactured in Korea?

Summary: I am returning this bit. I won't buy another Happy Mouth bit.
