Purchase: I purchased this pad through a used tack classified for $112. It had been used lightly and I needed/wanted a Mattes pad all along. I couldn't afford to pay $200 for a brand new one, so I got one used that was in excellent shape.
Likes: I've always heard good things about Mattes and it was the "hardest" item to come by (for me) being that I never could afford one at regular price (they were rarely on sale at the stores). I LOVE this pad. It is strong, durable and elegant. The sheepskin is VERY luxurious and it has a rolled front to allow air flow/circulation under the pad. The sheepskin panels are formed to exactly cover the horse's pressure points where the saddle lies and is spine-free and seamless for extra comfort...a PLUS.
Dislikes: The velcro billet straps towards the top of the pad are kind of flimsy and cheaply-made...other than that, nothing!
Quality: This pad is made in Poland. It has thick, sturdy cotton quilting with Sheepskin underneath the pad that lies on the horse's back for shock absorption and comfort. I got black, so it stays fairly cleaner than lighter colored ones. Very nice pad. Seamless and Spine-free. The pad automatically lifts up into the saddle panels, which is nice. The standard sizes are usually Medium and Large (I have Medium). Sometimes you can find X-Large if you're lucky. To wash it, you have to buy the special Mattes Melp wash to properly condition the sheepskin and keep it nice.
Summary: I am planning on getting another one in the future, hopefully I can afford to get a new one and pick a colorful one ;) I am happy with this pad. I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a pad that will last and give years of comfort to your horse.
