Purchase: I bought this saddle online from Double-O Ranch Tack. After I added several options, I paid roughly $1150. Brenda Obert, owner, provided the best customer service I had ever received, bar none. She was extremely knowledgeable about gaited horses' conformations, and unbelievably patient when answering every one of my endless questions.
Likes: After dealing with many, many ill-fitting or costly but cheaply-made gaited saddles, I fully expected to be disappointed yet again. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! It is gorgeous, the leather is supple but sturdy, and it smelled awesome- rich and expensive. The best part? It fits my short-coupled round'ish Tennessee Walker gelding like it was been painted on him. Neither he or I have ever been so happy in the saddle!
Dislikes: Not one thing. Okay, the saddle did have that typical new-leather squeak when I rode. I loved the sound, but my riding buddies didn't. I sprinkled some baby powder wherever the leather touched leather, and now it's quiet.
Quality: Even the details are flawless- every edge is beautifully finished, even the undersides are soft and clean. The suede on the seat feels thicker, and with a deeper nap than on other saddles. The extra padding in the seat was well worth the extra cost. I have very short legs, so I was ecstatic when I found out the company would shorten the stirrup fenders for me, before it was assembled, at no cost. Now I can actually use the stirrup hobbles for once!
Summary: Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. It's just not possible that there is a better made, more comfortable, and yet less expensive saddle out there in gaited-land. I love it!
