Close Contact Saddles
Manufacturer: Marcel Toulouse
Model: Genero
Category: Close Contact Saddles
Purchase: I needed a new saddle because I just bought my own horse and my old Kincade didn't fit his back properly. I took a trip up to my local tack shop and looked at consignment saddles because I didn't want to spend a ton of money. I found the M. Toulouse Genero, and it had only been ridden in once so it looked brand new and I immediately fell in love with the chocolate color. I bought it for $600 and thought it was a good deal because the new ones are usually around $800 plus.
Likes: I LOVE this saddle. I've had it for a little over 2 years and I would never sell it for any reason. The regular tree fits my Thoroughbred horse wonderfully, and the color matches him perfectly. Everyone has the original 'oakbark' color, but I like the Genero because it is different in that it is a deep chocolate color, and my horse is a dark bay. It also looks wonderful in the show ring and I have gotten complements on how pretty it is. It is also COMFY. I have ridden many of my friend's horses in their saddles, but none compare to the softness and comfort as my Toulouse. Even my friends say it is extremely comfortable to ride in. The sitting trot is like a DREAM! I always thought that the flatter-seated saddles were prettier and nicer looking when riding english, but my M. Toulouse's deeper-seated saddle is WAAAAY better, and I feel way more secure in my saddle.
Dislikes: The only thing I could ever complain about is that the color on the saddle is wearing off wear my leg is positioned. But, knowing myself, it is probably from my slipping leg! It is not that noticeable though, and all I have to do is wipe the flaps down with some Leather New Foam and the wearing disappears! After another ten or so rides, it comes back, but as long as you clean your saddle regularly it is not a problem. Other than that, there is nothing I could ever complain about!
Quality: The construction of the Toulouse is very good, and even though the tree life is ten years, I think it will last much, much longer. The leather is all in tact, and none of the stitching has torn or come apart on me.
Summary: Overall, I would never buy another saddle brand. I think M. Toulouse is extremely under-sold, because the only place I can ever find M. Toulouse saddles or bridlework is by looking on really random internet tack sites. Some big companies like Dover sell only the stirrup leathers and reins, so if you want matching tack to your Toulouse saddle you have to look around. But, in any case, I wouldn't buy another saddle brand because I love my Toulouse too much!!!
