Thinline
Half Pad
English Saddle Fittings/Pads
Manufacturer: Thinline
Model: Half Pad
Category: English Saddle Fittings/Pads
Purchase: My horse was having some serious back issues, and I thought I'd buy a pad that would hopefully help him in recovery and prevent his back issues from coming back. Looking online I found Thinline, and I bought the regular Half Pad, (the design is supposed to be more for the horse, unlike the Ultra Thinline which is for the rider) and I paid about $110.
Likes: This pad really made a difference in my horse's back pain. After undergoing treatment called IRAP therapy on his back, I immediately started using the Thinline when I was able to start riding him again. The vet said his back pain could eventually come back, but I was hoping this 'miracle' pad would keep that from happening. His back has not been sore since, and I got this pad about 8 months ago!!! I use the thinline directly on his back under my baby pad and Mattes half pad, and it works wonders! My horse is so much more willing to lift his back to me and also break at the poll, which was always hard for him. Even though he has very high withers (dreaded common thoroughbred trait) the thinline does not create pressure there. People say that there is no wither clearance, but I place the thinline so that it is right behind his withers so that there is no pressure there...but since the thinline absorbs shocks and molds to my horse's back, I don't see a problem with ever pulling it up onto his withers, anyway. Very awesome pad...I wouldn't try another one as long as he is still pain-free!
Dislikes: It is stiff at first when you place it on your horses back, but after you start riding it really molds to their shape. So basically, no complaints!
Quality: Very good construction and quality. People have said their thinlines rip down the middle, but I use it directly on my horse's back and it is perfect! I see absolutely no signs of wear!
Summary: AWESOME product, I suggest you get one if your horse has past back pain...or just get one so your horse's doesn't GET back pain!!! You can never be too preventative when making sure your horse's back is going strong...I learned the hard way.
