Purchase: I leased this saddle from Equestrian Imports, as I was looking to fit a difficult horse and did not want to end up purchasing a saddle that was the wrong fit, again. After 3 months of leasing, I was not parting with this saddle. Purchase price was $2825. I found this to be fair, even after I had spent money on the rental, as this gave me a chance to really try the saddle before making the big financial plunge.
Likes: The saddle was new when I started the lease and there was zero break in time. The leather is wonderful even though this is not the Ultima. The seat is deep and puts you close to the horse. The blocks only help your position. And the flocking is firm, but giving. I found I truly sink into this saddle. My back relaxes, and my leg goes long. This saddle fits my horse very well and she has had some major improvements in rounding and going forward.
Dislikes: Really the only grip would be the price. But you pay for quality.
Quality: Leather is very nice. Even after 3 months of solid riding, you can barely see where the stirrup leather have been. It is nice to have the changeable head. I originally ordered the saddle with the wide head, but soon discovered I needed a medium wide. I sent the saddle back and it was changed and back in less than 2 weeks. No waiting months for a new saddle to arrive.
Summary: This is a nice saddle, so try one if your saddle fitter recommends. You can always lease from Equestrian Imports or maybe find one used. And really, if you must have the Ultima leather then go for it, but don't worry about the "plain" SLK, it is a quality saddle.
