Purchase: Had this saddle on trial, it was used and the asking price was $800. Ended up not buying it as it was too wide for horse.
Likes: The saddle was extremely comfortable! The knee rolls were more like thigh wedges that were sufficient for canter work but not so large and hard that your leg was jammed back. The padding on the outer flap in addition to the wedge kept your leg and knee very comfy for long trail rides as well. The seat had tons of soft padding- absolutely no seat bone discomfort. Yet, it was easy to feel your seatbone to shift your weight. The padding was deep but not 'hard' like that of Prestige. The twist was very comfortable -not wide but not too narrow.
Dislikes: The flocking was packed very hard beneath the cantle. Suspect this would have been an easy fix. The gullet was a tight 3 fingers under the cantle- would have liked closer to 4 finger width. The panels could have been wider but again, reflocking would have been an easy fix. Also, felt the seat was a tad narrow. I have narrow hips to it worked for me but could see this as a problem for others. The seat size on this one was 18, but rode more like a 17.5- seems to run small.
Quality: The construction was very, very nice. The leather was pliable and soft. The seat and knee pads were a more textured, grippy leather of high quality. The saddle seemed very well built- on par with County, Stubben, Passier... A great buy for the price.
Summary: If the tree were not so wide (this was a wide tree, but VERY wide)and it were an 18.5 I would have purchased. This is one of the most comfortable saddles- aside from Kieffer model with the excellent tree- I have ever sat in. I cannot tolerate a harder, unforgiving seat and hate hard, kneecap banging knee rolls. This saddle had that 'couch' feeling I hear about. May be hard to find- now manufactured by Classic Saddlery. If you are looking- the tree runs wide and the seat small- so if you adjust for this, you'll have an awesome saddle.
