Dressage Saddles

Manufacturer: Shleese
Model: Jane Savoie
Category: Dressage Saddles

Purchase: Trialed only, this was a used saddle priced at $1,500. Had heard great things about Schleese saddles. Wanted a dressage saddle that was comfortable enough to trail ride in.

Likes: Well, not much really. The seat was harder, this model did not have a lot of padding. The knee blocks were substantial but again, hard- would have benefited from having a more padded flap. While not really uncomfortable, not comfortable either. It did put you in a good position for posting trot. The seat was open enough that you weren't jammed into a tight spot.

Dislikes: This saddle was supposed to have a 'crotch' cushion. Well, I think it collapsed or something as the area in between the stitching at the pommel by the twist had very hard edges that literally caused bruising at my upper inner thigh area! The twist wasn't wide but because there was not padding the edges were rock hard and sharp. I could have dealt with the harder seat but not this. The knee flaps could have used more padding a well-

Quality: The saddle was built to last- this saddle was well used but clearly had a lot of life left as long as you could handle the weird twist/pommel deal. The gullet was wide enough, the panels flat enough for a wider backed horse. It was an easy fit for my horses which was nice.

Summary: I guess I like a saddle that settles me in to it with no sharp edges at the knee/pommel/seat area- this one was not that. The cut out area at the pommel caused a very painful sharp edge on both sides of the twist-ouch. I can see how these saddle need to be custom made for the rider.
