Endurance Saddle
Trail Saddles
Manufacturer: Advantage Saddlery
Model: Endurance Saddle
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: This is actually an ENDURANCE model, but we tried one a few seasons ago for a mare who was a major fit problem. After going through about 5 other saddles, we had the owner of Advantage custom make this saddle for about $900! It has been SUCH a top flight saddle that we now have THREE of them that work for all six of our endurance horses. Katee, the owner, sent the EquiMeasure for the first, but was available come out for the other two horses, then made each one to order.
Likes: All of our riding family members LOVE the superbly light weight of the saddles, especially since they do NOT compromise on either quality or spreading the weight well. They are more of a western style but the space age material the tree is made of saves weight, and the VERY nice leather makes is very durable. Our oldest one is now about years old, and since endurance saddles tend to me measured in miles, not years, I can say that this one has at LEAST 2000 miles on it and still in EXCELLENT shape! We LOVE the quality of leather, the superb stitching work, the well balanced stirrup position, and the numerous rings and such for tying necessities. It comes with stirrups and mohair girth AND pad, so you need only saddle up and giddyup!
Dislikes: The only thing I DON'T like is that I don't have FOUR of them, what with a new younger horse coming up:). My horses don't do well with the mohair girth - most do apparently, but I swap it out for a neoprene then use the mohair girth on my western saddles which I don't use for long rides.
Quality: Space age tree material, light weight and super strong! Leather is sturdy, pliable and beautiful. Top quality endurance stirrups and mohair girth; solidly built, and western style fenders wear like IRON! Tight stitching with no rough edges.
Summary: The fact that we now own three of these saddles speaks for itself. We have ridden in 7 other saddle makes/styles over the past 16 years of competing in endurance, and there just is no other as good for us and our horses. While the price has gone up, it is a CUSTOM saddle, and we do not have to buy a new one every other year as some riders do. I like being able to use the same saddle as long as possible - kind of the way I feel about my horse and my husband!:)
