Purchase: Rider's International Horse Clothing is Dover Saddlery's brand. These blankets are only available from Dover. They usually cost about $130 but periodically go on sale for less. I have one for my Morgan mare, I have had it for several years now.
Likes: These have a 1200 denier waterproof and breathable outer shell, with a ripstop weave. They have 340 grams of poly fill insulation, making them heavy weight for winter use. They are quite tough, comparing to many pricier blankets of other brands. After several winters of wear mine has only one small rip in it, about 3 inches long. Blankets of a lower denier are often shredded quickly. When it was new it was very waterproof and it still keeps my horse pretty dry now. It has a nylon lining, and my mare has never gotten a rub from it. It has a front clip closure, cross surcingles, and leg straps, and stays in place very well. I particularly like the front closure. It has a buckle which allows you to adjust it, but also has a clip for quick and easy on and off. There is also velcro in front to help hold it closed at the chest. It also features a shoulder gusset for freeom of movement and a ring so that a neck cover can be attached.
Dislikes: Like all blankets with a traditional neck water tends to leak in around the neckline. In heavy rain or snow my horse's shoulders end up wet under the blanket. Also the blanket is not as waterproof as it was when new, after a few hours of rain the wet begins to seap through.
Quality: The quality is very good. After several years of use it is still in good shape, with only one small tear.
Summary: I think this is a good blanket for a reasonable price. It is almost as high in quality as higher priced Takas and Rambos. I reccomend them if you want a regular neck blanket, however I now prefer one with high neck to help keep out the water.
