Purchase: Purchased at Ricks Saddle Shop for $116 (using one of the many coupons Ricks sends out) after trying to purchase several blankets on Ebay. Mostly the blankets purchased on-line arrived in very poor condition and I needed a truly waterproof, heavy duty blanket. Thankfully we still have local tack shops because on-line blankets can be a gamble.
Likes: There are no surprises here. The blanket came out of the package in perfect condition, very well made, incredibly strong, with the typical Horsewares fit (fits just like the Rambo) and fully waterproof. I have a three year old Dutch who lives outside in a 20 acre field with 11 other horses. My little guy is number 4 in the pecking order which is unheard of for a horse this young. He means business and his blankets have to work! This blanket has been great. No rips, no tears, it has not shifted and it does not come off. I checked him tonight, in the pouring down rain (which is what prompted this review) and my horse is dry. The water beads up on the outside of the blanket, inside the blanket is bone dry. Not one drop of water penetrated this blanket. My horse was warm and toasty and happy (in the pouring rain!!!). He is probably the only horse on that farm (about 50 horses) that was completely comfortable, the other horses looked miserable and it has been raining steadily for the last 12 hours.
Dislikes: I was not thrilled with the color (navy blue) but after trying all the 'fashionable' blankets, color just didn't seem to matter. I love my horse and he couldn't care less what color it is. He is happy in his plain blue Amigo.
Quality: Typical Horseware's blanket, it is functional as opposed to 'pretty'. Brilliantly put together, not much to adjust, this is an easy wearing blanket. The fabric is amazing. This blanket goes on and stays on. I never worry. And again, this horse is very young. He plays, he mounts (the other boys), he runs, he rolls and he has a grand old time. AND this blanket keeps up.
I was concerned at first because I have always had Rambos and the Amigo is less expensive but the quality is there and the blanket works.
Summary: This blanket works! It is inexpensive, it is strong and it is waterproof. The blanket does exactly what the manufacturer claims it does. You don't get better value for the money.
