Purchase: I bought my container of Fura-Zone from Rhinebeck Tack, a local tack store. I paid roughly $8 for a one pound jar.
Likes: Fura-Zone is a tried and true wound dressing as far as I'm concerned. Every stable I've ever worked at has without fail had a jar or three on hand. It is unbeatable for wound protection.
It clings well, and in a decently thick layer will protect wounds from dirt and dust.
When wounds are closed but still in danger of cracking and scarring it keeps them supple enough to heal smoothly.
I've never seen infection (even in some very major scrapes and kick wounds) when treated with a liberal amount of Fura.
The bright color helps in keeping quick tabs on small wound sites.
Dislikes: Fura can supposedly cause cancer in humans according to some labels.
Quality: Fura contains 02% nitrofurazone which is very effective in the prevention of negative bacterial infection of wound sites.
Summary: Fura is a wonderful, and proven wound dressing for horses. I would not operate a barn without a container of it included in the first aid kit.
