Purchase: Purchased at Ricks Saddle Shop in Cream during the Thanksgiving Day Sale on Nov. 30. This review is being written on Dec. 10th, same year.
Ricks has been terrific. Horseware's does not warranty the Amigo 1200D but Ricks spoke with the Horseware's representative and I am getting a replacement blanket.
Likes: Not much. The blanket was waterproof and held up nicely in a rainstorm the first night of use. Unfortunately this same blanket broke two days later, so I guess there is more to a blanket than good waterproofing.
When I checked the Horseware of Ireland website, I found only the Rambo's are warrantied, the Amigos carry no warranty, not even for their first week.
Dislikes: Blanket broke during the first week of use. The hardware on both front straps (the metal surcingle closures) broke. One piece of hardware broke in half & cut the blanket strap that held it to the blanket. The other metal closure bent hopelessly out of shape mildly ripping the front strap that kept it attached to the blanket.
This blanket carries no warranty. If you spend the requisite $154 to purchase this blanket and it breaks during the first week, you loose your $154.
Quality: It seemed great the first night. Thick, heavy and very waterproof. Unfortunately IT BROKE TWO DAYS LATER!
In my mind, there is not quality. This blanket does not have a scratch on it. It has almost no dirt, there are no snags, no rips, no tears.
But the hardware gave way during its first week of use. It really doesn't matter how tough the fabric or how much fill a blanket has if the manufacturer stints on the hardware.
Summary: I have had several Amigos. They don't last forever but they are inexpensive blanket and they normally last at least the season.
For the money, there are a lot of well made blankets out there. If you have a good tack shop who stands behind their product, go ahead and try an Amigo. But if you are buying from a discounter or from Ebay, there are better choices available.
