Purchase: My mother and I bought this saddle for me to use on my pony as an all-around/foxhunting saddle. We paid around $1000 for it lightly used at a tack shop in Middleburg, VA, that consigned saddles.
Likes: This saddle was great for foxhunting, as it had a fairly deep seat. I always felt secure in it foxhunting first/second flight. The saddle's seat fit both my mom and I, and my wide pony and her med-wide horse, so it was a great all around saddle. I cleaned it every 3-4 times I rode, and oiled it about 2-3 times a month, and the leather has held up nicely and had a nice shine.
Dislikes: Though this saddle was great for foxhunting, when I started doing more dressage and jumping, I realized it was putting me in a bad position. When I would post, I would work really hard to post and would post high and ungracefully. The saddle threw my seat back and my leg forward, so I couldn't be very effective when using aids. The leather on the saddle was also slippery, but that could just be my version of the Edelweiss.
Quality: This saddle is hardy and well made. The leather was nice, and it was a reddish brown, which I think is Stubben's exclusive color.
Summary: The Stubben Edelweiss would be a great saddle for a person looking for a hardy, nice, foxhunting saddle and lives up to the "All Purpose" title. It would not be a good saddle for a person who wants a saddle for jumping or dressage.
