Purchase: My then current dressage saddle (Klimke Miller dresssage) did not fit me, nor did it fit my horse very well. Riding became frustrating and felt like a chore fighting my position constantly. As fate would have it, the County saddlery agent was also a fellow boarder at my barn. After trying out every dressage saddle County offered, my clear favorite was the Fusion. Luckily, my agent found a lightly used one through another client for $2800 including fitting.
Likes: Ultimately the decision came down to the County Perfection or the Fusion. County Saddlery is well known for their solid construction and great customer service, so I couldn't go wrong with whatever decision I made. The Fusion won it for me because it better fits a person needing a narrow twist to better hang the thigh. The external knee block supports my thigh and stabilizes my base of support. Although the block is said to be on the restrictive side, I find it to be the perfect amount of support for someone like me that also jumps on a regular basis and likes my knee up. My horse moves so much better-like night and day compared to my previous saddle. No longer am I fighting my position, and I feel like I could sit the trot for hours.
Dislikes: I love the amazing natural grip of the leather and its buttery softness. However, being the printed leather, when the saddle is freshly oiled or conditioned with a waxy substance, it tends to settle in the printed leather and makes it look dirty. Other than that, I wish it were less expensive(we can all dream). However, this purchase is an investment type saddle that comes with the support of a professional saddle fitter's service and is well worth it.
Quality: This saddle, like all County saddles are made of a wood spring tree, exceptional quality wool flocking, and butter soft leather no matter which option of leather is chosen. If I were to have purchased a new saddle through County, it would come with a warranty and a bit of "insurance" against all kinds of things but this saddle is so well made it really holds its value. These saddles are easily customized to a horses back and can fit a wide variety of horses, therefore making them fairly easy to resell.
Summary: Next to my love for this saddle is the amazing confidence I feel for the service my County representative has provided me. My rep treated it like an investment and made sure this was THE SADDLE for me and my horse. Truly it was a journey in selecting the Fusion and I could not have made a better choice. It is lifetime of "sofa feeling" comfort for me and my horse loves it!
