Purchase: I bought this saddle from my local County Representative. $3000 plus shipping.
Likes: I love the fit of this saddle to both the horse and rider. My horse is a TB with a large wither. He is very sensitive and does not want anything touching his wither--he will buck if a saddle does not fit perfectly. This was the only saddle that we could find that fit me well and could be fitted to my horse. Because the flocking can be regularly adjusted, my County person came out and would add flocking to the saddle after 10 rides and again after 6 months. This really helped my horse. I also really liked the position it put me in on the flat and over fences. I just feel really well balanced and like I have a better connection with my horse. My horse moves better and jumps better because this saddle fits him so well. I also love that it can be adjusted as he changes levels of fitness.
Dislikes: The saddle was expensive, but I feel that I got a good value for the cost. It also does take 8 weeks to get one made.
Quality: I got the standard leather as I did not like the look of the buffalo printed leather. Mine is the dark brown color which matched all of my other eventing tack. I also passed on the extra cushioning in the seat--its so comfortable it did not need it. I did get the C panel which provides extra lift in the front where my thoroughbred needs it. The leather is gorgeous and I was able to condition it at home in one evening to get it buttery soft. The stitching and everything is perfect and has held up well. County has a great guarantee on their product. My saddle got wet when I rode in a horse trial in heavy rain. I got a small pucker on the seat just in front of the cantle (which is where it got wet). I did not have oiled well enough. This did not bother me but my agent told me to have it fixed as part of the guarantee. The company did it for free and its good as new.
Summary: County is a great company that makes a wonderful saddle with amazing leather, that is custom fitted to your horse and can be adjusted as your horse's fitness level changes. I love the fact that my County Saddle rep lives near me and can come out at any time to adjust the saddle when I need it--not every 6 months when they are in town and its convenient for them. This was so important when my horse had an injury and was off for 2 months. When he got back to work, she adjusted the saddle so it was again a PERFECT fit for him. And being the sensitive guy that he is, he really appreciates this.
