Purchase: I got my Billy Cook from a tack store and paid the full price for a new saddle. This was about four years ago when I was twelve. Anyway, I was just starting to show and I needed a nice looking saddle that I could use for anything without paying a ton. My trainer listed some brands, I looked at them all and decided on the reining saddle.
Likes: I love my saddle. I've used the saddle for four years during; trail rides, team penning, western pleasure/equitation, trail class, speed (on an indecisive horse that sometimes turns on a dime), and training. And after all the abuse it's been through it still looks new except for in between the stirrup leather and the leather on top, but it looks fine after some conditioner. Other than that you wouldn't be able to tell mine from a brand new one.
Dislikes: The bad things about this saddle are the seat and the length. Because of what the seat is made of it's slippery and a harder to keep from sliding unlike the swayed leather seats. The saddle is also a little long I use it for my quarter horse who has a really long back so it fits him and looks good, but it looks huge on my paint who doesn't have a long back.
Quality: Again, I've had the saddle for four years and it's been rolled on, rubbed against walls, and rained on, but nothings fallen off or coming apart and it still looks new. When I bought it it squeaked and the leather was a little stiff, but the seat's padded and the leather became softer after about a week of riding.
Summary: This is a nice saddle and a new or used one would be a great buy. For small shows like 4-H this is acceptable for pleasure classes and works for speed. Also very durable.
