Model: Dressage Saddle
Category: Dressage Saddles
Purchase: I ordered this saddle new from State Line Tack online in June of 2008. My old dressage saddle was too small for me, and I was just starting to show my quarter horse gelding training level at some local shows. I needed a better fitting saddle that I could take to some small shows. I paid about $300.
Likes: The saddle held up well in the beginning. The leather was soft and supple, and the seat was very comfortable. The price was great too.
Dislikes: 5 or 6 months after I bought this saddle new, all the synthetic flocking started shifting around in the panels. the flocking shifted so much to the point were the whole saddle started to slip to the right, and I was trying to overcompensate for it by leaning left and collapsing my whole left side. Eventually the saddle wouldn't sit straight on my gelding's back. In the front the saddle's pommel would be pointing to the left of his withers, and in the back the gap between the panels was really far off to the right. This was causing so much pressure on his spine, that when I cued for left lead canter on a straightaway, he would not pick up his lead, which he used to be fine about. When the saddle was sitting on its pommel, the right panel was visibly bigger than the left, and both panels were lumpy. This saddle was very poorly stuffed with synthetic flocking.
Quality: The leather was soft and supple, but overall the construction of the saddle was very poor. The saddle is stuffed with synthetic flocking, therefore causing lots of shifting in the panels.
Summary: This saddle was poorly stuffed with synthetic flocking, causing a lot of shifting in the panels. This shifting carries many negative affects for both horse and rider. This saddle would probably be fine for someone who rides once a week or less, but for more avid and competitive riders I would NOT recommend this saddle!
