Purchase: I was looking for a very nice saddle to show in at large formal shows. I went to a tack shop in Dublin Ohio, "Jack's Tack Shop". He had GREAT deals on all of his saddles! I probably sat in about ten of them=) I was deciding on a HDR saddle and an Ashland.
Likes: I really loved the light newmarket color. The seat feels like you are sitting on a cloud! The knee rolls are very forgiving as well! I like this because of well it is put together. The leather is generously easy to break in. This was the first saddle that caught my eye!
Dislikes: It is difficult to find a bridle and girth to match this closely. It does show stains a little easier than a darker saddle and attracts more attention. After about 2monthes of riding everyday in it, my black boots started rubbing of its dye to the saddle=( I sort of expected this because of how light it was though. I keep it in a nice fleece saddle bag to keep dust of it to prevent discoloration. I am known for cleaning my saddle a lot at my barn and I have the time to keep it nice, but if you do not and want this looking at its best condition choose a darker color. Also after a few years the leather gets kind of slippery. I know some people like the slick feel while others like the very grippy contact... just another thing to keep in mind.
Quality: Very nice! Extremely Comfortable!! I started the Ashland saddle trend at my barn=) Everybody loved it they would ask to borrow it for shows!
Summary: Needs a consistent cleaner for the light color. Very nice for someone with back issues, who needs a comfy seat. Also great for someone with short legs. It is great for jumping, equitation, HUS, Hunter Hack, or even eventing! Really has a nice seat for all of those events! A wider seat for the liking of equitation riders and a narrow twist for jumpers.
