Purchase: I bought this saddle custom from a Devoucoux rep. It was around $4,000. I didn't have a horse to fit it to at the time, so it was made with a regular tree and panel.
Likes: The buffalo leather is top quality. The saddle is nice and cooshy and comfortable to sit in.
Dislikes: I hate riding in this saddle! The twist is way too narrow and my leg can never get in the right position. I'm always fighting to keep contact and a still leg. While I normally like the deep seat models, this saddle puts me in a 'chair' position, with my legs in front of me. I find it hard to get out of the seat for posting, jumping, and general riding. While I didn't get it custom fitted, I asked that it be made to fit most warmblood type horses. Of course, it does not fit any of mine. The gullet is too narrow- a bad way to make a 'comfortable' twist. None of my horse's get clearance of the spine. However, the cantle is very high and doesn't interfere with the withers.
Quality: The rep wasn't very helpful with my questions when I was buying this saddle. He didn't provide a demo or much insight on which model was right for me- he just wanted to sell this one. However, the leather is nice and this is a high quality saddle. I just hate the position it puts me in, and I have set to see a horse that it fits properly.
Summary: I wish I had never bought this saddle. Completely wrong for my body type, riding style, and horses. I know some people love Devoucoux, but never go on reputation alone. Be sure to ride in a saddle several times before ordering one.
