Purchase: I recently bought this saddle at a tack shop at cost for only $1795 new (usually retails for around $2500). I used to have a Wintec but decided I owed it to myself and my horse to get a nice leather saddle that was of better quality. My OTTB is still very green and has had problems with saddles fitting him because of his high withers and broad back. This saddle with a MW tree fit him like a glove!
Likes: Not only did my inexperienced horse move like a completely different horse, I felt amazing riding in it. The extra deep seat and medium knee rolls don't lock you in place, but they do allow for a great leg position and let you feel the horse better when you ride. My horse absolutely loved this saddle. Well worth the money! Not a "crotch buster" like the normal Kieffers are said to be. The leather is not slippery and provides great grip. The saddle already feels broken in and I've only ridden in it once! Fantastic saddle. By far the best saddle I have ever ridden in and I have ridden in a Kieffer Lusitano, Spirig, Schleese and Wintecs. Not only does it look high quality and fashionable, it feels and rides amazing as well. You will not go wrong getting one of these saddles. My whole body position changed with one ride!
Dislikes: Feels a little like synthetic leather at first, but it feels broken in already when I rode in it. There is absolutely nothing that I do not like about this saddle so far. I'd get 3 more if I could!
Quality: The leather quality is unsurpassed. A little synthetic feeling at first but soaked up the leather condition and suppled up right away. I have not been able to find a saddle to fit my horse (I've tried tons), but this saddle fit him like a glove. The high pommel allows for great wither clearance. The gullet is not as wide as I'd like (can only fit 2-3 fingers at the rear of the saddle, but it did not seem to bother my 16.3 hand horse in any way. The new "Excellent" tree has a 5 year warranty on it, so I'm assuming it will last a lot longer than that.
Summary: Well worth the money. I've ridden in some nice saddles before but this is by far the best one I've ever had the privilege to ride in. Excellent construction and I love the deep seat and the knee rolls. Not only did my position improve and my feel for my horse become greater, my horse felt amazing and moved a lot more freely. You can never go wrong with a Kieffer! Great quality!
