Purchase: I ordered this saddle through Victoria Saddlery for just under $3000.00 Canadian, including taxes and shipping. I dealt directly with Frank Baines to ensure proper fit.
Likes: I spend over a year trying to find a saddle that would fit my gelding before deciding to have one made by Frank Baines. My horse's relief and appreciation of the new saddle was immediate and obvious; his back became rounder, his neck softer, and he no longer pinned his ears when I removed his saddle.
As they also custom made it to accommodate my long legs and small seat, this saddle makes it very easy to sit correctly. It is extremely comfortable to sit in at all gaits, yet gives me very good feel of my horse.
Dislikes: I cannot think of anything I do not like about this saddle.
Quality: I ordered the Buffalo leather, and it is of superb quality which made it easy to ride in from the first ride. The finish on the leather gives it a slight grippy feel even if I am not riding in full seat breeches. The details from the even stitching to the numbers on the billet straps show quality and careful workmanship.
Frank Baines did a thorough job of assessing my needs and wants, as well as what my horse would do well in.
Summary: I would recommend this saddle to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, well made custom saddle. The difference it has made to my horse and to my own riding has been obvious. I particularly recommend this maker for someone who finds standard saddles don't fit their conformation or riding style.
