Purchase: My trainer mentioned these reins to me, so I had her order me a pair from Dover Saddlery. I paid $157.00 for them not including the shipping and handling.
Likes: These reins are specifically made for Dover Saddlery, and I love anything that is made for Dover, I think they have great qualtity for the price. All the Wellington reins are made in England. The bridles are made with hook stud ends, and the hooks are reinforced with heavy nylon, so they will last longer, and be able to be put through tons of use. These reins are very comfortable for my hands, and they were so supple when they first came to me in the mail. Normally plaited or braided reins are so hard on my hands, that I always have to wear gloves when I am riding so as not to get burns or blisters. These reins were so supple, that they totally eliminated the reason for me to wear gloves. They have a beautiful Havana brown color.
Dislikes: The plaits started loosening and coming undone after about 2 months.
Quality: The quality is nice, but I think because of the fact that they originally are so supple, they do not stand up to heavy work, and the constant use. The leather is of great quality.
Summary: Bottom line is I would not spend more than $100 on these reins, I think they are way overpriced, but if they were $100 or less, I would purchase them again in a hearthbeat, mainly because of the reason that they are so darn comfortable!
