Purchase: I bought this saddle used for $175. It was clearly old but then again, that's what I liked about it. Flat "pancake" seat as some might say, and it has that classic look to it. If I could give it 3.5 I would, but am doing a 3 for my "dislike" reason. It makes fitting more difficult.
Likes: I love riding in this saddle for its extremely close contact. There is very little between the horse and rider, and it is a very minimal saddle with nothing to get in the rider's way. I find it to be very correct and pleasing to the eye - has a good shape about it. The twist is definitely narrow and that is very important to me.
Dislikes: One thing about the older saddles, and especially this one, is that the panels are quite close. They are also not very wide, so not conducive to being a set farther apart by a saddler. Otherwise this saddle is fantastic.
Quality: This saddle is in very good shape but clearly quite old, and I must say that in the 80's BT Crump made these saddles TO LAST! Even the panels are still event. I can't comment on the Crest line... looks totally different actually. But if you find an older Prix De Saute I think you will be very pleased with its longevity. "They don't make them like that anymore."
Summary: Don't be afraid of the old Prix De Saute's! Just make sure there will be enough spine clearance for your horse. Riding in a flatter, minimal seat will really help you learn what's going on. And with a little care it will be very long lived.
