Purchase: I bought it for $200 from the Valley Vet website, for my appaloosa gelding for jumping/lessons/trail riding. I wanted something cheapish that had a cut back pommel for my high withered gelding, until I could save for something nicer.
Likes: I like the position of the flaps and the movable velcro knee rolls (I'm short and it fit just right). The cutback on the pommel was great. My gelding has really high withers and it fit him really well. There was tons of room for his withers. He moved out wonderfully because of that. The tree runs a little on the narrow side, but that fit him really well. He jumped and moved more smoothly and it really seems to fit him on his shoulders. It doesn't hardly scratch at all either. It's really easy to clean, just a soft brush will clean it off well.
Dislikes: IT'S SLIPPERY!!! The saddle is so slick it's insane. I can't trail ride in it at ALL. I normally have real tight seat and don't have problems with spooks, but I slide right out of this saddle and on to the ground. There is no sticking to it. Every trail ride in it I've fallen. The last time I smashed my face pretty good and am getting rid of it.
I also have to have a riser pad because it will not sit level. Even with that it still dips back.
The 17 & 1/2 doesn't feel like it. It feels more like a 16, and my butt doesn't fit it a 16. It just doesn't fit me well at all seat-wise.
Quality: I guess it's well made. The tree is sound and sturdy, and the stitching is all well and the velcro is good. The billets are nice too.
Summary: I wouldn't recommend this saddle. Even though the cutback on the pommel is great, the slickness of the saddle is just dangerous. DO NOT buy this saddle for any reason. The add says it good for a beginner/starter package, but I'm not one, and I can't stay in it. Its uncomfortable, too small, and way to slick.
