Purchase: I purchased my first Shedrow 840D Shell back in 2002 at Big Dee's Tack & Vet Supplies (www.bigdweb.com)for around $70.00. Just purchased 2 more now called Country Pride 840D Shell this winter 2008/2009 for $89.00.
Likes: I was in need of a waterproof blanket for my then 14 year old rescue horse who does not grow much winter hair. Because she is not body clipped I did not want a traditional heavy weight puffy turnout, just something to take the chill off and keep her dry. This blanket does just that and more! She is a very anxious horse, will not tolerate being stalled and so is turned out in all weather, mud, sleet, snow. She has never come in wet. It has a unique almost felted cotton lining that is somewhat thick and when winter is over it washes up wonderful every time. She is the sort that runs out of the barn every morning like a wild beast, rears, bucks, leaps and rolls, and thanks to the crossed belly straps and legstraps it never comes off!
Dislikes: I don't have any complaints the horses seem comfortable and always comes in dry!
Quality: The blanket has been on her every winter since 2002 - enough said!
They (big dee's) did change the styling and it now has shoulder gussets but I had been so happy with my first one that I went ahead and purchased 2 more this winter 2008/2009 at a sale price of $89.00 each for my other horses and have been every bit as satisfied with these new ones as my original.
They have a 840 Denier Nylon Shell, thick lining, no filling. 2 buckle open front, 2 crossed surcingles on the belly, and elastic adjustable leg straps that are replaceable. Tail flap and the new ones have shoulder gussets.
Summary: I had always been one to purchase only the top name brands but I have now been sold on these Country Pride/Shedrow blankets! They are not only very economically priced but retain great quality, fit well, and are remarkably durable. Plus their sales staff were friendly and knowledgeable which is always a plus. The second time I ordered blankets I did get the wrong sizes and they were very helpful with the returns process and
