Purchase: I first saw this saddle in a local tack store in Metamora Michigan called Equine Gatherings. It was in the used saddle section of the store sitting on top of the horse in mint condition. I swung my leg over it out of curiosity. I was immediately in love. The price tag was $1400.00.
Likes: I immediately felt balanced and comfortable in this saddle. Those of us with long thighs can appreciate the somewhat forward flap. Although I am 5'7" my thighs are 14.5 inches from inner thigh to the bend of my knee. Many traditional looking close contact medium and long flapped saddles just do not fit me correctly. I also like the way it fit my wide-shouldered somewhat high withered TB. He moves very freely in this saddle because it has an area near the scapula that seems to free up his shoulder and the cutback design of the pommel also suits him.
Dislikes: Initially, I thought this was an eventing saddle because it just looks a bit unique in the store(forward flap). The color of the saddle is just a bit non traditional as well. Once it is on the horse with a rider in it, the uniqueness is not quite as evident.
Quality: I LOVE THE TRADITIONAL WOOL FLOCKED PANEL IN THIS SADDLE. So many saddle makers are using cheap foam instead of wool. This saddle is aniline-dyed German high quality leather. The wide track in this medium treed saddle allows more clearance on either side of the horse's spine. The tree is well constructed and guaranteed. Much thought went into the horse and rider with the design of this very comfortable saddle.
Summary: It has taken a long time to find the right saddle for my horse (and me). My previous saddle no longer fit my horse's shoulders and because it was foam stuffed, It could not be modified to fit him. This is the reason that I personally will never again buy a saddle that cannot be modified to my horse's conformational changes.
