Purchase: I purchased this saddle from my local tack shop after they matched my favorite online store's $759 price. While I paid sales tax, I was able to have return privilege if it was not suitable for the horses I ride; something not available from the online supplier due to the 19" size I needed.
I looked through a lot of very nice used saddles before deciding to buy this product. And a number of folks in online forums indicated that the Thornhill Berlin was an often overlooked great value and a fine product. I agree.
Likes: This is a very comfortable, well made saddle. Patterned after a well known German saddle model, the Berlin is suitable for a wide variety of riding disciplines. The leather is quite nice and I didn't feel that a whole lot of "breaking in" was required. It's also one of the limited number of reasonably priced saddles available in a 19" or 20" size...something important to the limited number of male pleasure riders in English disciplines.
Another really nice thing about the Berlin is that it's very suitable for folks with wider "aircraft carrier" horses if need be. The "medium" tree that I bought is 32cm, which compares to a med-wide or wide with other brands. Thornhill offers this saddle with two even wider options than I purchased. Mine fits nicely on every horse at our barn that I ride and probably every horse I don't ride, too.
Dislikes: At first I was concerned about the Tobacco color for matching accessories, but that has not proved to be an issue. No dislikes, to-date.
Quality: The leather and construction details on this saddle are very impressive. While it's not a "high end" product with buttery leather, it's obvious that it is made to last.
Summary: The Thornhill Berlin A/P saddle is an excellent value and fine product for anyone, but especially for those needed larger seats and/or wider trees.
