Purchase: After months of saddle research for something light weight, flexi & cool, I bought a demo Spirit from Performance Tack in Virginia for $2000. I was really concerned about how it would fit my horse, or should I say which horse it would fit best, I have 4 rescues in need of comfortable saddles. Amy at Performance Tack is awesome! She had me send her wither tracings & pictures. Lucky for me, they all share about the same size! She adjusted the saddle just right and sent it over to Hawaii. It arrived on Halloween-I got the treat, and was assured if it didn't work for us I could get a refund.
Likes: There will be no need for refunding here. Love the way it has a tree, but somehow just flexes & contours. I've been riding bareback most my life, never cared for the disconnection I always feel with a saddle. Not this one, I can feel my horses movement & they don't seem to have a problem feeling leg commands. Excellent spinal clearance, easy on the shoulders & leaves even sweat marks after a ride. Did I mention lightweight? I think it weighs 14 lbs. This has a very secure deep seat. Oh Yeah, this is a cool saddle!
Dislikes: The pommel is triangular, I like to be able to lean forward all the way if I have to, this is uncomfortable. Good news, I can send it back & change the shape.
Quality: The leather is dyed through, my saddle is black with a blue seat-this will never change. The construction is solid, really good even stitching. Y-girthing, safety stirrup mountings, more D-rings than I can think to tie to, lightweight, deep seat, thigh blocks. Very unique design. Soft leather, EZ-Boy/Sofa seat comfort.
Summary: If you like to ride over the hills and far away, pack in the kitchen sink (just in case) & know that your horse is really comfortable too - try one. They're a bit pricey and hard to find used, but well worth it. The staff at Performance Tack are really easy to work with.
