Model: Chisholm Trail Saddle
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: Green River Discount Tack via Ebay, made offer of $400 which was accepted.
Likes: Absolutely fantastic - workmanship, comfort of padded seat, light weight trail saddle. I can't say enough about the comfort of the seat and stirrups, free swing of the fenders, really put me in a great balanced position and kept me there with minimal effort on my part.
Dislikes: little thing- the off billet is really long - I will either have to cut it or use it as a regular tie strap on the off side? Off billet and tie strap are nylon, but good quality and flexible; I may change them to leather later if there seems to be any problem. Cordura makes a different kind of swishing noise as you ride; my mare listened to it for about 100 yards and then ignored it, as did I and didn't think about it again.
Quality: Construction is top notch, really looks and feels great for a synthetic. No loose ends or unfinished edges.
Summary: I have been fishing around for the perfect trail saddle, can't afford the expensive models, so I took a chance with this, and I think I have found my forever saddle. I like a western horn to tie a pony horse to, and the seat is absolutely perfectly comfortable. I read a complaint about the stirrups feeling "sticky" - I did notice this, but I thought it was actually a plus. My feet didn't slip around in the stirrups at all, and I found I could completely relax my legs and release any tension that might have been used to keep my feet in place. When I went to dismount, I did not find my feet sticking in the stirrups, though; it was just fine. I got the regular QH tree, and it is plenty wide for my half Arab half QH. I am looking forward to many years and many miles in this wonderful saddle!
