Mountain Horse Rimfrost Tall Boot
English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Manufacturer: Mountain Horse
Model: Mountain Horse Rimfrost Tall Boot
Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Purchase: I was searching for a warm boot for winter riding and I was torn between the Ariat and the Mountain Horse. I had seen both in catalogs and decided that when I went to the Quarter Horse Congress I would try both pairs on and see which I liked best. Well, it was the Mountain Horse boot that won by a long shot for comfort, price and what I assumed would be good durability. I paid a very fair price at Congress of 69.95, the cheapest I had seen anywhere.
Likes: I love most the warmth of the Mountain Horse boot. I am on concrete much of the time I am at the barn (when I'm not on the horse) and everyone else complains that their feet are cold, but not me, not since I got my Mountain Horse boots. The boot is also very comfortable for a tall boot, it really supports your leg and ankles and is very easy to put on. The outer shell is make of a great material that washes up wonderfully, big plus during the messy winter and spring months.
Dislikes: The only fault I found with my boots is the durability around the zipper. I have only owned my boots for 5 months, and believe me, I have worn them almost daily. The material by the zipper has started to tear away a bit. I wear my boots over my riding breeches and don't feel that this is too much bulk for these boots to handle. I even bought a size 8 in the boot and I wear a size 6 1/2 shoe, just to make sure that I left enough room in the boot leg for the bulk of the winter riding clothes. My local cobbler can do the repair but it does disappoint me that I had to make repairs so soon into ownership.
Quality: The boot is made of a fantastic outershell material that allows for quick clean up. The sole is nice this rubber which makes for good traction and added warmth should you do alot standing on concrete flooring. The inside of the boot is pure comfort. A very roomy toe area and soft felt liner in the sole area. The quality of the boot is excellent in every area except the zipper area, there is an expandable patch next to the zipper to allow for movement I expect, but my zipper started to tear away within five months of owning my boots. This is the only fault I could honestly find with the boots. Perhaps heavier stitching around the zipper area could prevent this.
Summary: The Mountain Horse tall boots are the best pair of winter riding boots I have ever owned. They provide great warmth and support both on and off your horse.
