Purchase: I bought this saddle through Allie's Tack Shop in Rhode Island. This saddle was purchased as "lightly used." With my trade-in the saddle cost me $957. It retails new for anywhere from $1,695 to $2,000. The saddle is absolutely beautiful and in perfect condition. The tooling is exquisite with both basket weave and floral. I was in the new saddle market because my old Tex Tan didn't fit my new Paint with his broad back. He let me know it by acting out and being a first class brat. I've ridden him twice in this new Crates and no head flinging, evasions and tantrums. He moves nicely and seems very happy. The saddle is extremely comfortable, centers me very nicely, is secure for my long trail rides and has helped my new boy to relax. I am very impressed with the quality of this saddle.
The people I dealt with at Allie's represented this saddle well and helped me to make an informed decision.
Likes: I love how close this saddle sits me to my horse, the secure, comfortable seat and the absolutely gorgeous tooling. Although this saddle has limited silver, it could certainly pass at local shows. This saddle was a good find and I'm sold on Crates quality.
Dislikes: Nothing so far except for breaking in the fenders and stirrups. (But the people at Allie's offer free wrapping and customize the your saddle.)
Quality: Excellent workmanship and the tree fits my broad backed guy. As said above, the tooling is a work of art.
Summary: Wholeheartedly recommended. I bought this saddle for trail riding and it's a gem.
