Model: Warmblood Supreme Turnout Sheet
Purchase: Purchased for $89 + tax at a Dover Saddlery Retail Outlet. The weather was getting warm and I was desperate for a sheet. I had mail ordered several turnout sheets from Ebay and but none had worked out.
Likes: The fabric is great, 1200 Denier waterproof outer. I have had no issues with tears or snags and it appears to be waterproof (though I don't think that has been well tested yet). I was unsure about this sheets ability to stay in place (no tail strap, just rear leg straps) but it has managed to stay in place without slipping. Today I watched my 4 year old roll, and roll, and roll some more, mashing his sheet into the side of a hill. This went on for quite a while before he gave it up. I am told that my horse will roll, mash his sheet into the ground, fall asleep on the ground, wake up and continue mashing his sheet into the ground. The sheet stays in place.... And the sheet holds up. My four year is very playful. He has bite marks on his neck and bit marks on his back (through his blankets) and the sheet holds up. Lastly, I have heard some very negative comments about the fit of the neck and chest areas and it has worried me. It worried me enough that after purchasing this sheet, I bought a Pessoa Summit, a Rambo Lite Turnout and a Weatherbeeta Orican. Granted, this sheet is not a perfect fit. HOWEVER, it is a better fit than the Pessoa, the Rambo and the Orican. It has shoulder darts, double hooks, velcro and quick release snaps. You set your front blanket straps and then use the quick release snaps. If one set of hooks is too loose or too tight, you use the other set. After a few days using the wider set of hooks, the blanket started to fall off my horses shoulders, so I started using the tighter hooks. Between the double front hooks and shoulder darts, the fit is pretty good. I keep buying the "better" brands and my horse keeps wearing his Dover Supreme.
Dislikes: I would have prefered more variety and color choice. Dover's sells several colors on its website but only hunter/navy in its retail shops. I don't have a lot of negatives about this sheet but I would have prefered more color selection and I love all the new plaids being offered by other manufacturers.
Quality: Overall quality and construction is good. I don't think it is as good as the Pessoa or the Rambo but this sheet is a good deal less money. I do think it will last.
Summary: Excellent value for the money. And while it is not a "snazzy" as some of the sheets being offered by the name brand manufacturers, it fits better and it does the job. I will probably give up trying to find a nicer sheet & just let my horse enjoy it.
