Manufacturer: Circle Y
Model: Flex 2 Sheridan
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I purchased this saddle from a local tack store for about $1300 in March of 2008. It is the regular (semi-quarter horse) version.
Likes: This is an awesome saddle from the standpoint of rider comfort. As advertised, there is no break-in period, the leather comes nice and soft and supple. None of that painful twisting of my knees with this one. I also like the rigging options offered by the dropped front rigging and angled rear D. Nice and light at only 25 pounds, and it is a very attractive looking saddle, I get lots of compliments on the trail.
Dislikes: The horse I bought this for is pretty narrow with moderately high withers. It took some experimenting to find the right pad with it because I felt it was pinching his withers. He always had a nice even sweat pattern, no dry spots, so it wasn't bridging, and it is not too narrow, but it seemed like so much of my weight was borne by his withers. Finally I tried the Charmayne James Ortho Air Ride pad, with extra padding behind the withers, and that was the ticket. Now he seems nice and comfortable. One thing I did not realize is that the regular tree version of this saddle has only 6 1/4" gullet. Some of the other Circle Y's have a 6 3/4" gullet in the regular tree versions.
Quality: Excellent construction and quality.
Summary: I love this saddle now that I have found the right pad to make my horse as comfortable as I am in it. In hindsight, I might have tried one of the 6 3/4" gullet flex 2 saddles from Circle Y to see if that would have given his withers a little more room.
