Purchase: I was shopping for a trail saddle and liked the Tucker High Plains. However, I was having a hard time letting go of the money they wanted. I went to Equifest and saw the High Horse in a booth that also had the Tucker. I placed both saddles side by side and truly could not tell a difference besides the name on the keeper. The booth was CM Tack. I paid $995 for this saddle compared to the $1450 for the Tucker.
Likes: I can not say enough good things about this saddle. It came with the endurance stirrups. The seat is wonderfully thick and comfortable. The twist is narrow even through I got the wide tree. Tree is a flex tree. I have a Haflinger Appaloosa cross. It fits him like a glove. There are no dry spots under this saddle. It weighs about 28 pounds and has the nice good quality brass hardware rings. Plenty for all the things you would take on a trail ride. The leather is nice soft and thick. No cardboard crap on this one. Well worth the money.
Dislikes: Even through I like the endurance stirrups, I don't like that they are plastic. I think I will order the leather covered endurance stirrups later.
Quality: Very well put together. The leather is wonderful. I did oil it as soon as I got it home, but this is something that I do to any new leather piece of tack. It really didn't need it as the leather was nice and soft. Great quality of leather. Like I said earlier, this is just as good as the Tucker in all ways, just doesn't carry that name. It is made by Circle Y, same as Tucker.
Summary: I am so glad that I went ahead and bought this saddle. It was just what I was looking for. If you like the looks of the Tucker High Plains but don't want to pay that much for one, do yourself a favor by checking the High Horse Big Springs model out. You will not be disappointed.
