Manufacturer: Colorado Saddlery Co.
Model: Natural Ride - English
Category: Western Miscellaneous
Purchase: I purchased the Natural Ride from the company website for $199. Included was a breast collar and bridle.
My older, cheaper bareback pad slips when my horse gets sweaty, and I wanted something more stable and with a breast collar attachment.
Likes: Though this isn't really a saddle like the company makes it seem, it's a really, really nice bareback pad. It has the front part of a saddle, the fork, that the cinch and stirrups attach to.
It has actual cinch rigging, not just a girth strap, so you can really secure it to your horse's back. You can also use a breast collar with it.
It won't slip or slide around, even going up and down hills. The handle is pretty secure, and it's convenient to grip if you need a little extra help for balancing.
I'm currently working on a way to attach a water bottle to it for trail rides.
Dislikes: I took the stirrups off, and now I like it much better.
The problem with the stirrups isn't the stirrups themselves, it's me and my lack of leg muscle.
The fork is quite stable and secure, so there's no worry of the stirrups pulling the pad to the side or any of the other safety problems that come with bareback pad stirrups.
However, they have a much wider range of motion than stirrups on a saddle. They are securely attached, but their stability comes more from your leg than from the rigging.
As I don't have a stable leg, they're not the best. I also found that they wanted to put me in a bit of a chair seat.
I also don't like the waffle neoprene against my horse's back, so I use a wool saddle blanket underneath or a thick fleece pad for longer rides.
Quality: This pad is good quality and well made. I'm very pleased with it. The materials are sturdy and durable, and the cinch, cinch rigging and pad can be changed out to suit an individual rider's needs.
Summary: It's not a saddle, so if you're looking for the security of a saddle, don't buy this.
If you're looking for a bareback pad that won't slide, will stay where it's placed and that you can safely attach stirrups to, this is the pad for you!
It's an excellent bareback pad, and it's the most stable one I've ever ridden in. Once the cinch is tightened, it stays in place like a regular saddle.
