Manufacturer: Big Horn
Model: Haflinger Model 1579
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I bought this saddle from a local tack store in 2002 for $679. It is the all leather haflinger saddle from Big Horn, not the part cordura one.
Likes: After much searching, this was the only saddle I could find for my mutton-withered gaited pony mare (13HH). It gives her the shoulder freedom she needs to perform her gait comfortably, without the rock of some gaited saddles or the bulk of a wide quarter horse type saddle. It a good looking saddle, and has a secure and comfortable suede seat. I love riding in this saddle!
Dislikes: The fenders are very stiff and it took awhile to get them broken in.
Quality: Excellent construction and quality - has held up well in the 6+ years I've had it, in fact still pretty much looks new.
Summary: I think anyone with a smaller, mutton withered horse should take a look at this one. It is a smaller saddle overall but generous in the wither/shoulder area.
Usefulness Rating: 3.33333 out of 5.
