Purchase: Purchased on e-bay 4-16-2009. Shipped from Essex England. Ran a Google search for used dressage saddle for taking lessons and practice. Paid 250PS, equivalent of $390 US. Shipping was $90.
Likes: The leather is top quality, the condition is very light use. The color is beautiful, two tone brown, Havanna. The Medium fit is perfect for my quarter type gelding. It was advertised as a 17" but by measuring from the button to the center of the cantle it is an 18" which is perfect for me. The owner "threw in" a girth and saddle cloth so that I could ride it immediately without a trip to the saddle shop.
Dislikes: Nothing, it rides great. Deep secure seat, soft and comfortable.
Quality: Hand made stamped on the under skirts. Extremely good quality for the $. Much more than I expected in a starter saddle. Made in England by Master saddler, Batchelor Saddler of Epping Essex England. 047 Society of Master Saddlers. Stitching is of super quality and material, very secure. Leather is top quality with no wear.
Summary: I have spent 50 years riding German made and English made saddles with the most popular brand names in the US. This Ideal brand, which is very popular in England is better than anything I have ever owned. It is up there with my Harry Dabbs Jajuar which I paid $3,500 for. What a pleasant surprise. This was my first e-bay purchase and the best bargain I have had.
