Purchase: I purchased this saddle from Fine Used Saddles out of Houston for $3200 in December of 2008. It was advertised as used with 10-15 rides on it. I think it was more like 3-4 rides, as there were NO marks or wear whatsoever on the saddle. It is a 2006 model that was obviously never used.
Likes: I have a VERY difficult horse to fit. She is a TB mare with a large shoulder and narrow withers and will not tolerate anything that restricts the movement in back or shoulders. After going through 5 different jumping saddles (Bates, Prestige & Toulouse to name a few) and having a saddle fitter out (all with no success), a friend of a friend recommended I try a Schleese saddle. After doing some research, I decided that the COOL model would work well for both jumping phases of eventing.
The saddle is fabulous. It is extremely comfortable and puts me in a GREAT position for both cross country and stadium. From the beginning, it fit my horse better than any other saddle had. However, after having it adjusted at a Schleese fitting clinic, it is perfect! Turns out, not only does my mare have a large shoulder and narrow withers, her right side is slightly larger than her left. This is the reason I had had such a terrible time trying to find a saddle that fit her. This was something Schleese was able to adjust for, and now my mare is moving and jumping better than ever before. The Schleese saddle fitter was wonderful. She was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. She took her time measuring both me and my horse to get the correct fit for both of us.
Dislikes: I LOVE my saddle, but these saddles are not for everyone as they are very expensive. However, if you have a difficult horse to fit, or you have the money, these saddle are fantastic and I HIGHLY recommend them!
Quality: The quality of this saddle is impeccable. It is made of the finest buffalo leather that is soft, supple and grippy, but at the same time, does not show marks or wear easily. The leather easily accepts oil and has molded nicely to the shape of my legs. It is wool flocked and has Schleese's AdptaTree that truly can be custom fitted to the horse. In addition, the fit can be changed/adjusted as your horse's body changes or, if you choose, to a different horse altogether. Schleese can also replace/repair anything on the saddle as needed.
Summary: With the amazing quality and craftsmanship of this saddle and the ability to have it custom fit to your horse, this saddle truly is a saddle you can have for life! It is worth every penny you pay for it.
