Purchase: I did some research looking for a special saddle pad for our daughter mare who is swayback and high withered. I decided to try the 5 star pad as it had the cutout for the wither and seemed to be a nice shape for her back. I wanted to try wool pad this time. I had a lot of people say they like their wool pads over other materials. I bought the 1 inch thick burgundy pad at Farmer's Harness Shop in Iowa for about $150.
Likes: I like the soft material and how nicely it conforms to her back. The cutout fit good on her wither. We had a saddle that didn't seem to fit all that great, but this mare has no problems with our saddle and this pad combination. I got the pad that was 30 inches long as she has a short back. The saddle was only 23 inches long.The burgundy color was a big hit with my picky daughter. I used the sponge, that was included, to remove the white hairs and it worked great.
The mare was shedding horrible and I didn't like all the hairs on the saddle pad. I was surprised how well it worked.
Dislikes: It does show her white hairs pretty easy.
That is about the only thing I didn't like especially when she was shedding. Price is a lot for me to pay. There are a lot of other wool pads out there, but this pad had a lot of positive feedback. I see why now.
Quality: Quality is great. Soft, but has not been crushing from saddle. Seems to bounce back well.
Summary: I wished it was cheaper, but a nice quality pad. Love the color and would recommend it to others.
