Category: Barrel Saddles
Purchase: I bought it used, paid $375 CAD
Likes: Overall for what I expected (ASIAN COPY OF A BOB MARSHAL) It is pretty nice the stitching is good, it is very comfy MY MOSTLY DRAFT CROSS LOVES IT. The leather is not the best quality but its not too bad the silver is cheap but looks ok. IF you are expecting $2K quality for $400 you are not going to get it. If you take it for what it is. you may be pleasantly surprised. it is very good quality for an "Indian" made product. Labeled Hillason Texas..........misleading. However I feel it is a nice product for the average person with a WIDE horse who wants a comfy trail saddle that could go to local shows and fairs if it fits their horse.
Dislikes: Personally there is little I dislike. I dislike the "painted light leather" this is a light leather saddle but they have treated it somehow. I HATE "pink" light leather. but whatever they sprayed on it......It will not absorb neatsfoot oil....except in the tooling (makes a very nice contrast though) the claim that its treeless feature makes it fit any horse is false. Because "wake up people!" SADDLE TREES WERE INVENTED FOR A REASON TO GET THE UNATURAL WEITGHT OF A HUMAN OFF THE SPINE OF YOUR HORSE! Yes its all fine and dandy to be a "Natural horseman" AND its great that so many people CARE about the happiness of their horse! Thats great! However. Treeless saddles (and I am a trainer AND a Judge) in my opinion. Are made for table backed non whithered horses who by confirmation have a recessed spine. (you can pour water on their back and it makes a pool. Horses with prominent whithers and narrow backs do better with a well fitting TREED saddle.
Quality: The quality is medium, my saddle is well stitched and GLUED in places but for THE PRICE it is a nice saddle, its similar to riding a marshmallow.
Summary: If you want Champagne on a beer budget this is not a good saddle for you. If you want a decent quality house wine for a reasonable cost. Its a good deal. It is medium quality not for everyone. Mine is well made as far as stitching etc. I am happy with it, not the quality of a bob marshal but decent for the everyday rider..with a WIDE horse.
