Purchase: I purchased this saddle directly from the Duett Saddle website. I bought it brand new for $1500. It is an 18" seat with a 38cm tree. I would have liked to have purchased it used but Duetts are hard to find used.
I have a mare that is half Belgian/half quarter horse and very, very, round. I purchased a wide Prestige saddle for her and was amazed at how poorly it fit her. My husband commented that it looked like a teepee! I decided that I didn't want to fool around with "wide" saddles and buy a saddle specifically designed for wide horses.
Likes: I love this saddle! It is very comfortable for me and it fits my horse like a dream. It looks like a custom saddle on her. I am 5'7" and wear a size 10 and I need an 18" seat. It is a very deep, secure seat. I used the saddle for dressage shows and for trail riding. I have never felt as secure in a saddle as I do with this one.
Dislikes: The leathers seem to wearing on the flaps more than they should. I am not concerned but it does effect the appearance. It is minor. Also, the leathers are not easy to put on the saddle. It is just the way the flaps are cut around the stirrup bars. This also is a minor issue and would not prevent me from buying the saddle.
Quality: The saddle is very solid. The leather is soft and very pretty.
The saddle does seem to be very substantial and large. A friend of mine who rides barrel horses commented on how heavy my saddle is. You know your english saddle is big when a cowboy complains about the size! But the size of the saddle is probably what makes it so comfortable. Kind of like your grandpa's big old recliner.
Summary: I could not imagine finding any other saddle that fits my horse as well as a Duett. She loves it, I love it, it's probably the best tack purchase I have ever made. I have a Bates Caprilli for jumping and I am thinking about selling it and buying a Duett Presto. I really can't be happier with the saddle or the service from the company.
