Manufacturer: Specialized Saddles
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: Bought from the original owner with shims and fitting pads for $1000.
Likes: Beautiful saddle, nicely put together. Nowhere NEAR as heavy as the Tucker saddle, Orthoflex or Watson saddles that I've previously ridden. Quite comfortable considering there's not huge amounts of padding in the seat. Girthing up is a breeze with the English rigging (uses dressage girth) though the biothane billets do make it essential to have roller buckles. Saddle sits correctly on my horse's back when not girthed up, even when she moves around. This is the FIRST saddle that didn't move around and threaten to fall off when my horse moves.
Dislikes: The biothane leathers make it a bit difficult to girth up without roller buckles, but it can be done! Would prefer maybe a little more padding in the seat, more for the novice riders who I occasionally sponsor. Could have used a suede seat, but that's a matter of semantics. Since I have gaited horses I would like a bit more forward adjustment on my stirrups. It may actually be there, I just haven't found it yet. Does show some rubbing on the fenders already though it's not very old. Thankfully the fenders are easily replaceable.
Quality: Construction is quite nice. Quality is very good. It is soft and supple while being quite tough. I'm quite pleased with the construction and quality.
Summary: So far the saddle is living up to the hype. :) My horse likes it and so do I. I did purchase a used Specialized saddle pad to ensure proper fit. No more shoulder soring on my horse and she has plenty of room to move off and rack her little heart out!
