Model: Summit 1800 Denier Turnout Sheet
Purchase: I first purchased three (3) of the Pessoa Turnout Rain Sheets when they were only 1200 Denier. I bought them at my local tack/feed store. I paid $129.00 each + 9% tax. Then, I bought three (3) more on-line (horsesrusonline) for $125.00 each. These were the Summit 1800 Denier Turnout Sheets. They didn't have the colors I wanted, but they were great to work with.
Likes: My horses are hard on them. The Pessoa's lived this past winter, through my horses antics, albeit, a minor bite/tear on the hiney area, in one! One! Even the 1200 Denier Pessoa's survived! Previously, I had purchased a Kensington rain sheet, too. I paid $89.00 for it. It appeared to be analogous to the 1200 Denier Pessoa's. It wasn't. Not even close, despite the fact that it claimed to be 1200 Denier, as well. Then, I bought two (2) store brand rain sheets at $99.00 each + 9% tax. They were only 640 Denier and rubbed the horses' shoulders. Worthless, since they rubbed, leaked and the horses destroyed them. As for the Pessoa's, the first year, I barely used them. The next year, I used one, a bit more frequently, but not the entire rainy/winter season. The next year, I bought 3 more of the 1800 Denier. I used all six (6) of them on all six (6) of my horses! I *love* them! They hold up, extremely well! They don't leak! I love the mesh lining to fluff up the hair! I love the hand insert area to remove clumps of hair after washing it! I love the protective cover strapping over the metal connectors! I love the leg straps vs. a butt tie! I don't worry that the horses are going to get wet. I don't worry that the horses are going to get too warm. I love the fact that they are nice and heavy! I love it that they help keep the horses warm.
Dislikes: The buckles are a bit of a pain, in the front at the chest. The older style has more velcro to work with, so you can get a fit, then buckle up. These, don't have as much and it's hard to work with/figure out. The neck/withers area doesn't fit perfectly, either. One thing to remember is that they run a bit large. That was annoying when I bought the first ones. It would be nice if Pessoa added the round rubber keepers (O-rings) on the 'T-Lock,' but it's not critical. However, I love them and won't buy anything else.
Quality: Outstanding! Heavy duty material; kept the horses warm and dry.
Summary: Well made; clearly, a quality product. They hold up well to horses who are hard on their 'clothing.' I won't buy anything else in a Turnout Sheet.
Usefulness Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
