Purchase: I bought this pad at equifest about four months ago. I paid $229 for it. I was looking for a good quality pad because my horse is getting older and I want to make sure I do everything I can to keep him feeling good.
Likes: The green color is beautiful. I like that you can take out the inserts and wash the pad (I have not done this yet so I cannot review on that). The idea of having impact foam in my pad I really liked, especially since my horse is getting older. My horse has high withers, so I like the gradual contour the pad has.
Dislikes: The brown leather along the bottom of the pad got rub marks from my saddles fenders the very first time I rode and after riding, it takes about two days for the pad to return to normal. These are minor issues. The thing about this pad that is a big problem for me is that it pinches my horse. Yes, if I ride for more than a short schooling the felt bottom bunches up. When I took the pad off after a trail ride my horse's skin was pinched up in several places. He also started growing some white hairs on his withers!
Quality: The quality of this pad is good. I believe it would last quite awhile, assuming you do not wash it too frequently.
Summary: This pad is a novel idea. However, it did not work for me. I will not use a pad that leaves pinch marks on my horse's skin. I feel sick that I spent this much money on a pad that actually made my horse fidgety being saddled. I would say this pad would be a good buy for $50. I tried my sisters generic cheap pad and it worked better than this pad did (no pinching and my horse moved out better). I still want to buy a good low impact pad for my horse, but I am going to be more careful next time.
