Pytchley
Wool Hunt Coat
English Show Apparel
Manufacturer: Pytchley
Model: Wool Hunt Coat
Category: English Show Apparel
Purchase: I had been eying up this coat for a year and a half or so. It was on sale at a local tack shop (The English Horn Ltd) for $150 (more than half off the price they used to list for in Miller's, and that was at least 10 years ago.) It is English made of 100% wool. I have the grey herringbone with very fine rustish and olive green colored pinstripes (they are barely noticeable, but they do add dimension to the coat.)
Likes: I absolutely LOVE the fit. It is a European size 18L and it fits me PERFECTLY. The bust is actually big enough without the waist being HUGE. That means the coat looks custom tailored because it isn't boxy like so many mass produced coats in larger sizes. Also the sleeves are actually a true long, unlike some brands where the sleeve still doesn't properly make it to you wrist with a bent arm showing TONS of cuff. The fabric is a lovely medium to heavy weight wool, but very breathable, so even at the summer shows it is comfortable, but yet at cold fall shows it keeps me snug. The style is also appropriate for a cubbing day with the fox hunt or other hunt seat events, not just the show ring. The biggest thing for me is the quality of the materials, craftsmanship and style. And to top everything off, it has the famous foxhead buttons, instead of something completely plain and boring. :)
Dislikes: I don't like the fact that it is so hard to find them any more. They stopped importing Mears (the maker of Pytchley) coats as far as I know. Maybe they could make a comeback, you never know.
Quality: Like I said in my likes, the quality of materials, construction and style are the things I like best about this coat, I have a friend who has had hers for years, and it hasn't yet gone out of fashion. I know english trends don't change DRASTICALLY, but they change enough that when you have something that can stay current enough to wear year after year, you've got a KEEPER. I've found my keeper, I'll tell you that.
Summary: I love my coat. I think that if you are NOT built like a 14 year old boy (and I know many of you are not) you will like this coat too, since they are actually designed to fit curves instead of a packing box.
