Purchase: I bought this saddle frankly because of the excellent seat option it had. This option provides not only a softer seat, but one that never 'bottoms out' onto something hard and bone jarring on your seatbones, which then elevates to your back. Once you ride in this everything else feels like concrete- no matter how much 'padding'. Yet feel of the horse is not compromised. This Orphee was on e-bay for around $1,100- couldn't resist.
Likes: The cutback panel at the shoulders and pommel is awesome for my big shouldered (draft cross)horse whose high wither extends halfway down his back! It fit with no alterations! Fits far more body types than t/b's. Soft flocking!Love the seat of course and the fact that I can relax without worrying about back/hip/tailbone discomfort even after hours of riding. The seat is deep but not so deep it forces you in one place. Thus I can ride in the arena and on trail and 'move' around as nec.- more close contact but with security. The outer block is perfect for trot/canter work as well as supportive for spooks and hills! Versatile saddle, well constructed with soft leather. Even new the price isn't absurd. Oh, and this is not a 'crotch-buster' at all!!
Dislikes: If I had to bicker or improve this saddle, since I tend to pinch with my knees I would want a bit more cushion in the knee pads. Am being VERY princess and the pea picky here.
Quality: Has everything one would look for in a quality, functional saddle. Cut back panel, wither room, soft flocking, soft leather, the 'y' or 'v' girthing system (and the front billet does NOT bind the shoulder or come straight out of the knee block making it difficult to replace). Wide gullet, wider panels. Just fits.
Summary: Awesome, super comfortable, pain relieving, close contact, secure yet nonrestrictive dressage saddle. Fits my horses- the shoulder freedom with this model was a bonus. Didn't realize how my other saddle was restricting movement. It took 18 months and dozens of trials to find this saddle. You can't go wrong with this saddle. In my vast search I found NOTHING that matches the comfort of the "Excellent" option.
