Purchase: Ordered direct from DownUnder Horsemanship site. Paid $1645. New horse was too wide for the saddle we used for his predecessor.
Likes: Comfort and fit. The Martin Axis tree is terrific - it fits both my horses who are built totally different. I like the level seat and the "unusual" pommel design which helps keep the rider in place. I like the way the stirrups are pre-twisted so the stirrups hang correctly without the use of "gizmos" to make them hang perpendicular to the horse.
Dislikes: I do NOT believe the Clinton Anderson saddle is made with premium leather as some posters have claimed. I inquired about that before purchasing the saddle and could not get a straight answer from seller, the manufacturer, or Cashel, which sells a nearly identical saddle on the same tree for about $300 less. The Cashel is even tooled the same as the "Clinton" but the color is different. Cashel is one of DownUnder Horsemanship's sponsors.
Quality: It appears to be well made but like I said the leather is just not comparable to saddles I already own which ARE made with the same premium name-brand leather that is being HINTED at for this saddle.
Summary: The proof of the pudding will be in the tasting. If the leather in this saddle WEARS well I will be satisfied. Other than the fact that I paid a premium price for premium leather that doesn't appear to have been delivered, the saddle looks well made and certainly fits me and the horse.
